Back in Time
In 1895 James Whaley Webster came to Rexburg, Idaho. With his brother in law, and a band of 3,000 sheep, the Smart and Webster Livestock Company was formed. The business was very successful. J. W. Webster was very involved in the commercial activities of Rexburg. He was a heavy stockholder in the Rexburg Mill, an organizer of the First National Bank of Rexburg, a stockholder in the H. Flamm Company, and one of the men to inspire the erection of the Rexburg Drug Building. He donated to the establishment of the Webster-Johnson Library at the Ricks Academy. He served two terms in the Idaho legislature and as Mayor of Rexburg. Mr. Webster was a very wealthy man. With that wealth, he loaned money to farmers of the community.
Now, in 2023 the Webster's land has been farmed by six generations of Websters. The fields are planted with wheat, barley, hay and potatoes.
